Measurement Guides

Measuring a Kitchen:

Measuring a kitchen accurately is an essential step in planning for a kitchen renovation or designing a new kitchen layout. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to measure a kitchen accurately:

1. Prepare for the Measurement: Before you begin measuring, clear out the kitchen as much as possible, remove any obstacles or furniture, and clean the space so you can measure accurately. It would help if you also had a measuring tape, paper, and a pen to record the measurements.

2. Measure the Length and Width of the Room: Start by measuring the length and  width of the room. To measure the length, stretch your measuring tape from one end of the room to the other. Record the measurement in feet and millimetres. Do the same for the width of the room, measuring from wall to wall.

3. Measure the Ceiling Height: Measure the height of the ceiling by holding the measuring tape against the wall and extending it to the ceiling.

4. Measure the Doors and Windows: Measure the height and width of any doors and windows in the room. Record each measurement separately. Make sure to note which measurement corresponds to each window or door.

5. Measure the Wall Lengths: Measure each wall length, starting from the left-hand corner and working clockwise. Measure each wall from corner to corner, recording the measurement for each wall.

6. Measure the Location of Electrical Outlets and Switches: Record the location of all electrical outlets, light switches, and other fixtures on each wall. Make sure to measure the distance between each fixture and the floor, as well as the distance between each fixture and the nearest corner.

7. Measure the Location of Plumbing: Record the location of all plumbing fixtures, including the sink and any other appliances, on each wall. Measure the distance between each fixture and the floor, as well as the distance between each fixture and the nearest corner.

8. Measure the Cabinets and Countertops: If you are replacing or adding cabinets and countertops, measure the height, width, and depth of each area where you plan to install them.

9. Double Check Your Measurements: Double-check all of your measurements to make sure they are accurate. It is better to double-check and confirm everything than to end up with incorrect measurements.

By following these steps, you can accurately measure your kitchen and plan for your renovation or new kitchen design.

Measuring a Bedroom:

Here's a guide on how to measure a bedroom for fitted furniture accurately:

1. Gather the necessary tools - you'll need a measuring tape, a pencil, and a piece of paper to write down your measurements.

2. Measure the length and width of the room - start at one corner of the room and measure the distance to the opposite wall. Make sure to measure both the length and the width of the room.

3. Measure the height of the ceiling - measure the distance from the floor to the ceiling in multiple places to ensure that the ceiling is level.

4. Measure the distance between the walls - measure the distance between each pair of opposing walls in multiple places to ensure that they are parallel.

5. Measure the position of any doors and windows - measure the height, width, and position of any doors or windows in the room. Be sure to measure the distance from the floor and the distance from the adjacent walls.

6. Measure any alcoves or recesses - measure the width, height, and depth of any alcoves or recesses in the room.

7. Measure the position of any radiators, electrical outlets, or switches - measure the distance from the floor and the adjacent walls to any radiators, electrical outlets, or switches that may affect the placement of the fitted furniture.

8. Measure any built-in wardrobes or other furniture - measure the width, height, and depth of any built-in wardrobes or other furniture that will remain in the room.

9. Double-check your measurements - it's important to double-check your measurements to ensure accuracy. If possible, have someone else check your measurements as well.

10. Draw a floor plan - use the measurements you've taken to draw a floor plan of the room. Make note of the locations of doors, windows, alcoves, radiators, electrical outlets, switches, and any built-in wardrobes or other fitted furniture.

By following these steps, you should be able to measure a bedroom for fitted furniture accurately and create a floor plan that will be useful in planning your furniture layout.

Measuring Under The Stairs:

Measuring the space under your stairs accurately is essential when you want to install fitted furniture like cabinets, shelves or drawers. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you measure the space under your stairs correctly:

1. Gather the necessary tools - you'll need a measuring tape, a pencil, and a piece of paper to write down your measurements.

2. Identify the type of stairs: Different types of stairs have varying degrees of complexity in their construction. You will need to consider the shape, angle and height of the stairs before you can accurately measure the space under them.

3. Measure the height: Start by measuring the height from the floor to the ceiling at the highest point under the stairs. This measurement will help you determine the maximum height of the fitted furniture you can install.

4. Measure the depth: Next, measure the depth of the space under the stairs. This measurement should be taken from the back of the stairs to the front edge of the stairs.

5. Measure the width: Measure the width of the space at the widest point, which is usually at the base of the stairs. Measure the width again at the narrowest point, which is usually at the top of the stairs.

6. Account for obstacles: Take note of any obstacles, such as pipes or ducts, that may be present under the stairs. You will need to make allowances for these when planning your fitted furniture.

7. Draw a plan: Once you have taken all the necessary measurements, draw a plan of the space under your stairs on a piece of paper. This will help you visualize the space and plan the layout of your fitted furniture.

By following these steps, you can accurately measure the space under your stairs and plan your fitted furniture accordingly.
